Sometimes there are situations when you need to identify the mobile operator by phone number. For example, when receiving calls from an unknown number to determine the region of the caller, or to communicate only within the network with a small amount of funds on the balance.

Step 1
The first three digits of a telephone number, not counting the international code characters, are called the DEF code. For example, for the number + 7-901-765-43-21 it will be the sequence 901. Each operator is assigned one or more DEF-codes for subscriber services. Also one DEF-code can be used by several operators.
Step 2
The easiest way to identify the mobile operator by the phone number, included in the "big three". For them, the following correspondences are relevant: - DEF codes from 910 to 919 and from 980 to 989 are allocated to "MTS"; - 903, 905, 906, 909 and from 960 to 968 are allocated to Beeline; - codes from 920 to 928, 930 to 938 and parts 929 and 997.
Step 3
For other GSM operators, DEF codes 900, 902, 904, 908, 940 are allocated, from 950 to 953, 955, 956. CDMA operators are allocated to use 901 and 907. DEF code 954 is used by operators providing satellite communications.
Step 4
It seems possible to independently identify one of the “Big Three” operators by phone number. Determining the rest is difficult, so special online services or programs can be used for this purpose.
Step 5
There are a sufficient number of sites on the Internet that provide the ability to identify an operator by a phone number. The principle of their work is the same, they differ only in the design of the proposed interface. In addition, some services show the region of the desired subscriber on the map. Step 6
Another option is to use specialized software. They have a built-in DEF code base that allows you to uniquely identify the mobile operator.
