As a rule, Garmin navigators have a pre-installed set of maps in their kit. However, this set cannot suit absolutely all users. In this regard, the task arises of installing additional Garmin maps.
Instructions
Step 1
Decide which maps you are going to install on the navigator - licensed or free distribution. In the first case, you will have to pay the developers, in the second, you can freely download it from the Internet.
Step 2
Installation of official Garmin maps is carried out using the MapChecker software. This application automatically searches for new versions of maps, after which it provides instructions on how to download them. For this program to work, connect the navigator to a computer with Internet access.
Step 3
Installing unofficial maps will take a little longer. Connect your navigation device to your computer. Download MapSource software to your computer. To download it, open garmin.com in your web browser, then go to Support -> Software -> Mapping Programs. Find the MapSource link in the list and click on it. The download will start.
Step 4
Unpack the contents of the downloaded archive. First run the msmain.msi file and then the setup.exe file. Wait for the program to install.
Step 5
Download the maps for your Garmin navigator that you want to install. Unpack them into a separate folder. For each of the downloaded maps, run the Install. This is required in order for the information about the cards to be registered in the system registry.
Step 6
Then start the MapSource application. Click on the menu item Utilities -> Manage map products. This section allows you to discover all Garmin maps installed on your system.
Step 7
In the upper left part of the program window there is a drop-down list with installed cards. Use it to select the one you want to install.
Step 8
Click on the pentagon-shaped icon on the toolbar. After that, click on the map on the right side of the program window. After clicking on it, its name will be displayed in the list on the left side of the window. Perform this operation with all the maps that you want to install on the navigator.
Step 9
Click on the down arrow icon located on the toolbar. All maps selected for installation will be combined into an.img file and sent to the navigator. Installation completed.
