Modern laptops are often equipped with built-in webcams. As a rule, this camera for the convenience of video communication is located above the display, exactly in the middle of the screen. The camera's operation signal is a LED located a few centimeters from it, however, if the LED is absent, then the camera's operability will have to be checked using the operating system or special programs.
Instructions
Step 1
Go to the "Start" menu and select "Control Panel" in it (or open it using the desktop shortcut). In the "Control Panel" window that opens, double-click on the "System" icon. This will open the operating system properties dialog box.
Step 2
In it, open the "Hardware" tab and click the "Device Manager" button in it. A list of all devices, physical and virtual, that are installed on this computer opens, with information about each device.
Step 3
At the very bottom of this list, find the line "Imaging Devices" and click on the "+" symbol to the left of the line. In the list that opens, find the webcam and make sure that it is enabled (its icon and line are not marked with a question mark or a red cross).
Step 4
Open your webcam application to see how it works "in practice." This application is usually installed simultaneously with the driver on the built-in camera. To launch this program, open the Start menu, then click on the All Programs button, and then find the icon for the webcam program (for example, Acer notebooks call this kind of application "Acer Crystal Eye Webcam").
Step 5
If the webcam is working properly and is enabled, immediately after starting the application, the picture received from the camera will appear in its window. If you have not been able to find it before, then thanks to the image from the camera, you can easily find its location.
Step 6
You can also open any application that interacts with the webcam to launch the webcam for testing purposes. For example, a program for making video calls Skype or an application for extending the functions of a regular webcam ManyCam.
