Recently, there you can buy instructions on how to create your own multimedia projector, and many other tips aimed at ensuring that the user can independently make a huge screen at home without causing much damage to the family budget. Russian computer scientists are well aware of what these instructions are. But maybe there is still some truth in them?
Despite the dubiousness of these manuals, they make you wonder, is it still possible to make a projector at home? And it turns out - you can! This manual, completely free of charge, describes the entire process of assembling your own XGA projector.
We will focus on a projector with a high resolution XGA (1024x768 pixels). Despite the fact that eBay often suggests using projectors with VGA (640x480) or SVGA (800x600) resolutions, why do you need 480,000 or 300,000 pixels when you can make a projector and get 800,000? Buying a ready-made XGA projector would cost you $ 1,500, and you can build one for less than $ 300.
All projectors, both factory and self-assembled, consist of a backlit LCD display. An old LCD is fine, and you can buy it for $ 100. We are talking about used LCD monitors in 14 "or 15" sizes. An old LCD panel with a dead or burnt out lamp is ideal for assembling a projector.
In addition, a projection apparatus is needed. For $ 50 it is quite possible to find a used device (WolfVision, Elmo, Liesegang, 3M).
If you only care about functionality, you can take a cheaper device in an outdated case. The brightness of the lamp is the first thing to consider when buying it. For example, equipped with a 400W halogen lamp, the Liesegang model (OHP 2510), as indicated by the manufacturer, gives 3500 ANSI lumens.
High power leads to high heat dissipation, it is necessary to ensure proper cooling of the LCD panel to avoid thermal damage.
Price is the main advantage of a halogen lamp: it will cost you less than $ 30 to replace it, while HQI lamps will have to pay much more.
For proper brightness and necessary lighting, the minimum lamp power is 350 watts. If the brightness is low, you will have to darken the room.
