Until now, Russia has not advanced very far in the production of its own mobile devices - phones, smartphones, tablets. On August 30 of this year, Dmitry Rogozin got acquainted with the first sample of a domestic tablet computer developed for the Ministry of Defense. Rogozin is the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, whose area of responsibility, in addition to the nuclear and space industries, includes the military-industrial complex. A new tablet was presented to him during a visit to MEPhI, a former engineering physics institute, which has now become the headquarters of the National Research Nuclear University (NRNU MEPhI).

According to Andrey Starikovsky, general director of the NPK, which works on the basis of this organization, the computer will be supplied to the army as part of a defense order, but its civilian version can also be bought in ordinary stores. The military version will be shockproof and waterproof, and its main purpose should be data encryption, storage of cryptographic keys, as well as terrain maps and navigation within the GLONASS and GPS systems.

The technical characteristics of the device are not reported, except that the tablet will be equipped with a 10-inch screen. And the operating system is known to be based on the widespread Android software product from Google. The Google Play store and the functions of secretly sending user data to the company's server have been removed from this OS. For the distribution of applications for military tablets, this store will be replaced by NPC's own development. Such a modification of the OS was named "RoMOS" - Russian mobile operating system.

It is known that the civilian version of the tablet will cost about 15 thousand rubles, and the production of new items should begin in 2012. According to Starikovsky, the mobile computer will be assembled by the head institute of the Ministry of Defense - TsNIIEISU - from imported components.
