Nowadays, on the Internet, you can find almost everything: music, movies, texts, programs, and the like. The need to use tape recorders is gradually disappearing, as once happened with vinyl records and reels. But many have such recordings that are difficult to find elsewhere, be it collectible cassettes or a recording of a small child reading the first poems. You can extend the life of these films by digitizing them.

- - sound card with line-in;
- - cable;
- - audio cassette.
Instructions
Step 1
The vast majority of consumer cassette players have a headphone output. If not, try to find a device with an outlet, this will greatly simplify the task. The connector is a conventional 3.5”jack input. Find it on your tape recorder and make sure it works by plugging in your headphones. In addition, some tape recorders have cinch output connectors, usually white and red. These connectors can also be used to connect to a computer.
Step 2
The device that will help connect the computer and tape recorder for recording will be a cable. The cable can be purchased in hardware stores, computer stores, as well as in specialized stores of radio parts and equipment. In addition, the cable can be soldered by yourself. It is a three-conductor wire, each end of which ends with a 3.5-inch jack plug. You can buy it in the store by asking “cable jack to jack”. For 2 tulip outputs, ask for a 2 tulip jack cable.
Step 3
Connect one end of the cable to the headphone jack on the recorder and the other to the line-in jack on your sound card. Line-in is a blue hole located on the back of the computer's system unit.
Step 4
Open the sound mixer by double-clicking on the volume icon next to the clock. Make sure the line-in is enabled on the mixer. Check if there is a check mark next to the "Off" item. If so, remove it and set the volume control to a sufficient level.
Step 5
You can use the Windows built-in Sound Recorder to record. It is located at: "Start" -> "Programs" -> "Accessories" -> "Sound Recorder". (In Windows XP - "Start" -> "Programs" -> "Accessories" -> "Entertainment" -> "Sound Recorder"). In the menu "File" -> "Properties" you can select the recording format, file name, as well as the location of its saving. Recording is started by pressing the Record button, red circle. Click on the record button in the program and start playing the cassette in the tape recorder. At the end of playing the tape, click on the "Stop" button in the program and save the recorded file.
