A home server is a computer that has more memory than a home computer. It is practically a file drive controlled by special software.
It is necessary
- - computer case;
- - Power Supply;
- - motherboard;
- - processor;
- - RAM;
- - sata controller;
- - two - three hard drives;
- - LAN card;
- - Wi-Fi module.
Instructions
Step 1
To make a home server, you will need a few parts, devices, and appliances. Among them:
Computer case. You can only use the early model year, as on housings before 2005 you will need to make a lot of alterations to install the necessary connectors and fasteners. Give preference to enclosures that can accommodate multiple hard drives.
Step 2
Power Supply. Purchase with a case, and only as a last resort separately. The fan must be low-noise.
Step 3
Motherboard and processor. Be very careful when choosing a manufacturer. Which processor you choose will affect the performance of your server. There is only one recommendation here - look for a modern motherboard with good reviews. If you have an old case, be sure to agree on the installation location.
Step 4
RAM. Matched to the performance of the processor.
Step 5
Two to three hard drives. Try to choose one with a decent amount of memory.
Step 6
Network card and Wi-Fi module. Usually, modern motherboards have built-in network cards, but another one is required. It is necessary to check when purchasing a network card whether it supports the so-called host mode.
The specified configuration is not the only correct and dogmatic, and may vary somewhat depending on the tasks performed.
Step 7
To correctly make a home server, the order of installing equipment in the case should be as follows:
- Power Supply;
- motherboard with a processor;
- RAM;
- controller and hard drive;
- LAN card.
The order can be slightly adjusted during assembly.
Step 8
Most likely, you will need some alteration of the case for an additional network card, for which you select the required opening in one of the walls with a file. To install the controller, you will need to remove one of the brackets from the back of the case.
Your home server is assembled. All that remains is to set up your computer, install the necessary software and get to work.
