Recent years have made photography a popular hobby. There are a huge number of affordable digital SLR cameras on the market, as well as accessories for them. One of them is a polarizing filter, but before purchasing one, you need to research your options.

A polarizing filter is a specially formulated and coated glass fitted with a mount for your lens. In practice, it is used in order to reflect part of the sun's rays at a certain position. In an image with this filter, the sky becomes bluer, the clouds stand out more, and the overall contrast level of the image rises in general. Filters also remove some of the reflections and glare from water, glass and other reflective objects, making them very attractive for landscapes and nature.

First, you should decide on the type of filter that suits your camera. The main division of filters is according to the type of polarization. There are linear (PL) and circular (CPL) variations. If your camera and lens have autofocus, use only CPL filters to avoid incorrect autofocus and exposure metering. Also, polarizing filters are divided according to the type of attachment. The most common are screw-on filters that screw onto the lens, or another filter with a specific diameter already on the lens.

It should be noted that the quality of the material from which the filter is made greatly affects the quality of the photo. The operation of the polarizer can be checked by looking through the filter at the sky, preferably with sparse clouds, or by looking at a computer monitor. This way you can see if it works. But a cheap filter may have some glass flaws, blurring the picture and making it blurry, this will be especially noticeable when using cameras with a large number of megapixels and a high-quality matrix. Keep this in mind when buying a cheap filter. Ask for several copies in the store, photograph the same view with each one and compare the detail at maximum magnification. Often times the instances will be different. A polarizing filter is quite difficult to manufacture, therefore it is better to buy a serious, high-quality filter from one of the well-known companies.

If you are the owner of a modern SLR camera, then to buy a filter, you just need to specify the diameter of the lens, calculated in mm. Most often, the diameter is indicated on the barrel next to the front lens element. Order a quality circular filter of this diameter.
