The Windows XP operating system allows you to send and receive fax messages directly from your computer without the use of special devices. To do this, you need to install and configure the appropriate service.
Instructions
Step 1
To send and receive faxes, you must have Windows XP installed on your computer, you will also need a modem that allows you to work with fax messages, as well as the disk from which Windows was installed. Open the main menu "Start", select "Run …", in the window that opens, enter the command appwiz.cpl. On the left side of the Add or Remove Programs window, select Add Windows Components.
Step 2
In the Windows Component Wizard window, check the Fax Service box and click Next. If prompted, insert the operating system disc. The fax service will be installed.
Step 3
Open the start menu. Go to the "Accessories" section, then "Communication", in the "Fax" section, select the "Fax Console" item. In the window that opens, enter the area code, dialing method, service provider code and click OK. Click "Next".
Step 4
In the "Select a device for faxing" list, specify the modem that will be used, click "Next".
Step 5
In the corresponding fields, enter the TSID (it consists of the sender's number and the name of the organization, displayed on received faxes) and CSID (the text displayed on the machines sending the fax). Click Next.
Step 6
To automatically print all received messages, check the "Print" checkbox (you will need to specify the printer to be used), to archive all messages, check the "Save a copy in folder" checkbox (you will need to specify the disk space for storing files). Click Next, then Finish.
Step 7
To make changes to the work of "Fax Service", start "Fax Console", in the "Tools" menu, select "Fax Settings" and make the appropriate settings.
