Instructions

Step 1

Let's first find suitable connectors on TV and computer. Video cards are usually endowed with two main types of ports for transmitting video signals: VGA and DVI. Sometimes the relatively old DVI port is replaced by its modern counterpart, HDMI.

Step 2

In modern LCD and plasma TVs, you can find from 3 to 6 all kinds of connectors for receiving a video signal. Most often these are the following types: regular antenna input, VGA, HDMI and SCART. It would seem the smartest solution is to find a VGA-VGA cable and connect your TV to your computer. The method is one of the most convenient. But it has one significant drawback - the VGA port transmits only an analog signal.

Step 3

Fortunately, there are special cables that allow you to interconnect the DVI and HDMI channels. Here we will stop at them.

Step 4

Connect the selected cable to the computer's video card and the connector on the TV. Turn on both devices. After loading the operating system, a picture of the desktop will be displayed on the TV display. If you can see all the shortcuts and the mouse cursor, then the function of duplicating screens is already active. In this case, at this stage, you can complete the setup of the TV and PC.

Step 5

If you only see the background image, then you have several options. Open Control Panel, go to the Hardware and Sound menu and select Adjust Screen Resolution.

Step 6

At the top of the new window, you will see an image of the two displays. If you want to transmit to the TV a signal similar to the main monitor, then activate the function "Duplicate these screens".

Step 7

If your goal is to enlarge an area of your desktop, then select Extend This Screen. In this case, you get the opportunity to use both displays independently of each other.

Step 8

If you are using a computer's DVI port, you need a cable with an audio connector at both ends to send audio to your TV.
