The transistor is an amplifying element that is able to increase the weak signal energy that is supplied to it due to the energy of additional power sources.
Necessary
- - transistor;
- - ohmmeter.
Instructions
Step 1
Examine the transitions of the transistor (collector-base and emitter base) to determine the type of transistor. In a bipolar transistor, the diodes are turned on towards each other. In the event that it is p-n-p, then the equivalent diodes are connected by cathodes, if, on the contrary, by anodes. To find out the type of transistor, use an ohmmeter - a special device that determines the resistance value.
Step 2
Connect the negative terminal of the ohmmeter to the base to check the forward resistance of the junctions, and the positive terminal alternately to the emitter and collector. To perform a reverse resistance test, connect the positive lead to the base. Using an ohmmeter, you can determine the type of conductivity of the transistor, as well as the assignment of its outputs.
Step 3
Connect the first lead of the ohmmeter to the lead of the transistor, alternately touch the other two leads to the others. After that, swap the leads. You need to determine the position of the ohmmeter in which its connection of the second terminal to the terminals of the transistor, which are not connected to anything, will correspond to a small resistance. In this case, the terminal of the transistor connected to the first terminal of the ohmmeter is the terminal of the base. If the first terminal is positive, then the conductivity type of the transistor is n-p-n; if negative, then p-n-p.
Step 4
Determine which terminal of the transistor corresponds to the collector. To do this, connect an ohmmeter to the two remaining terminals. Connect the base to the positive terminal, if the transistor is of the n-p-n type, or to the negative terminal, if vice versa. Next, note the resistance value that the ohmmeter shows.
Step 5
Swap the ohmmeter leads and read the resistance again to determine the type of transistor. In the case of a lower resistance, the base is connected to the collector of the transistor. Thus, you will determine the type of transistor and the purpose of the outputs.
