Choosing a microphone for karaoke

On the modern market, there are mainly dynamic and condenser type karaoke microphones. The first ones look familiar for such devices (they can be seen, for example, in the hands of TV presenters and vocalists at music concerts). They are considered the cheapest and easiest to connect, but you have to pay for this not always with high-quality sound. Although, if you wish, you can "dig a little" in the sound parameters of the computer to achieve positive results.

Condenser microphones are more professional equipment. They have a lightweight design, devoid of some additional microcircuits and are often installed in a fixed position. These devices are more expensive and are usually used in recording studios. In addition, professional video bloggers prefer to use them. Thus, it is important to decide for what purpose the microphone will be used - the usual amateur performance of karaoke or recordings of songs and clips in a home or studio environment.

Connecting a microphone to a computer

Modern computers and laptops have special connectors for connecting audio devices of the TRS type (Jack 3, 5 mm). The speaker or headphone jack is usually green or white, and the microphone jack is pinkish or red. Often there are corresponding icons and inscriptions next to them. Connectors can be located both on the back of the system unit and on its front and sides, sometimes duplicating each other.

Most karaoke devices are equipped with a corresponding plug, but some of them can be 6, 3 mm or XLR. In this case, you need to make sure that there is a suitable connector on the computer. If not, you will have to additionally purchase a special adapter for the TRS connector. Turn on your computer and wait for the operating system to load. Now connect the karaoke device to the system unit.

Once connected, an alarm should sound, and a notification will appear on the taskbar that a new device has been detected. However, in some cases, at first glance, nothing happens when a microphone is connected. Then right-click on the audio icon in the clock area and select "Recorders". The window that appears should display information about the connected microphone and, in some cases, its name.

Sometimes the microphone can be displayed in the settings in the off state. Just click on it and select it as the default recorder from the options menu. Here you can set the desired sensitivity level and test the presence of a signal. If the microphone is not detected by the system or does not work as expected, update the sound driver on your computer or download special drivers or programs for the purchased device from the manufacturer's website.
