There can be many reasons for replacing the display on a camera. Although this procedure requires a jewelry approach, it is quite possible to change the screen with your own hands.
Cameras are inherently fragile devices. Among the parts most susceptible to damage due to rough handling is the liquid crystal display of the camera. In order to break it, even a slight blow is enough.
A broken LCD does not display the image correctly: black spots, streaks, patterns of the most incredible shape may appear on it. If the screen is just covered with cracks, the protective glass is broken, while the display itself remains intact. You can change the screen in the camera yourself, if only you are careful and accurate in your movements.
Preparing for replacement
To replace the display in the camera, you will need to buy the necessary components or find a donor. The workplace must be prepared: remove all unnecessary and establish high-quality lighting. When working, you will need a set of screwdrivers of appropriate shapes and sizes, thin tweezers with curved ends and a small magnet to collect small metal parts on it.
Disassembling the camera
To begin with, you should disconnect any existing peripherals from the camera: a flash, an additional screen, a strap, and you will also need to remove the power source. Disassembly must begin with opening the case. To do this, at the ends of the device it will be necessary to unscrew up to a dozen screws, which can be of several types.
The camera body splits in two. As a rule, the lens and electronics are fixed in the front, and the display is fixed on the back. After disassembly, the back cover is held only by display cables, which must be carefully disconnected. In some models, the power and signal loop are combined into one.
The screen in different cameras can be fixed in several ways. The most difficult one is fixing the screen in a special metal frame, which is screwed to the back cover of the case with several screws. They need to be unscrewed, and then removed from the frame, the display, which is fixed with small metal tendrils. In the process of removing the old screen, you can not stand on ceremony with it, but you cannot bend or damage the mounting frame. A protective glass can be attached to the display, which is also held in place by small latches.
Installing a new display
First, you need to attach a protective glass to the display, then put everything together in the frame, if any. Before installing the protective glass, you will need to remove the film from the new display to protect it from dust and dirt. Do not touch the front of the screen until the protection is in place, otherwise dirty prints may appear. The frame must be fastened with screws to the back cover, then the cables must be connected and the camera body assembled.
