No front door is complete without a lock. A good lock is a guarantee of security for the room. There are many different types of locks - padlocks, postal, digital, etc. But in most cases, there are lever or cylinder locks on the front doors. What to do if the lock is faulty, and there is no way to call the master for some reason? You need to pull out and disassemble the lock yourself in order to fix the problem.
Instructions
Step 1
Knock out the locking pin between the lock and the door handle with a hammer and a nail (you can simply unscrew and remove with a nail the key that is jamming the handle). Then remove the handle from the lock. This is usually done easily and effortlessly. Next, unscrew the external fastening screws and pull the lock out of the door.
Step 2
Unscrew the lock cover with a screwdriver. If the spring is broken, just replace it with a new one, assemble the lock and insert it back into the door. Damage to the spring can be indicated by the fact that the lock handle stops moving, and the tongue does not want to enter the socket. And if you let go of the doorknob, it will not return to its original position. Even if the latch cannot be pulled out with a key, it means that the lock has deteriorated.
Step 3
Disassemble and lubricate the lock periodically for continued and trouble-free operation. Absolutely all locks need such prevention, except, perhaps, electronic ones. Locking mechanisms have curly edges that tend to get dirty. Continuous use leads to the fact that the movement of the tongue becomes difficult and tight, and pressing the handle leads to "sticking".
Step 4
Follow the sequence of steps for self-disassembly and lubrication of a complex door lock. All elements (valves, springs, latches) should be removed in a specific order - then, so that you can easily install them back in the same sequence. This is important if you have never done this yourself and are generally new to this whole business.
Step 5
If you have an expensive and complex castle and it so happens that it is out of order, invite specialists and entrust this work to them. Because the safety of your home or office will depend on the result of the work. As a last resort, you can always buy a new lock.
