The laser can be used for a variety of purposes. It can serve as a pointer, a cutter, an element of combat equipment, etc. Likewise, a laser can be made using common objects that we constantly encounter in our daily life. One of them is the PC drive.

Instructions

Step 1

Take apart your personal computer's CD, DVD or Blue-Ray drive to make a laser. Please note that the drive must be writing, otherwise the resulting laser will not only not have the desired properties, but it will simply not be visible, since a conventional drive has infrared radiation.

Step 2

Take a Phillips screwdriver. Remove all screws on the surface of the drive. Then remove the top case cover. Find a diode among the parts to make a laser out of the drive. Typically, a diode consists of two small aligned cylinders. Take a soldering iron and carefully unsolder the three contacts of the diode so as not to damage it. In order to make a laser from a floppy drive, you need two contacts: the middle (minus) and the top (plus). Remove the bottom contact completely or bend it so that it does not interfere with you.

Step 3

Check the diode is working. To do this, take two finger-type batteries and connect them to the diode contacts in accordance with the marking. Please note that in no case should you shine a diode in your eyes. This will definitely be bad for your vision.

Step 4

Choose a case for the future laser. For this purpose, you can use Chinese laser pointers or some kind of small flashlight. As for the first option, the case will need to be improved, since your laser needs at least 2 AA batteries to function. As for the flashlight, the diode can be installed in it instead of the reflector. Connect the contacts and you can assume that the laser is ready.

Step 5

Further, when using a laser, be careful, as it can not only shine for a long distance, but also burns through paper quite easily, lights matches and leaves deep burn marks on the plastic. Do not direct it at the skin and especially at the eyes.
