Step 1
When buying a USB modem, you should take models designed to work with any SIM cards. But if you have already bought a device from MTS and you need to use the services of another operator, the modem should be “unlocked, removing all restrictions from it. You should be aware that these restrictions are artificial and are not a feature of the device itself. By replacing the software on it, you can work with SIM-cards of any operators.
Step 2
To unlock the modem, you need the DC unlocker utility, which can be found on the net. Download it, then insert a USB-modem with a SIM-card of another operator into the computer and install the original communication program from MTS. The installation starts automatically.
Step 3
After installation, you will be asked for a 4-digit card code, enter it. After that, they will ask for a 16-digit code, in response to this, close the communication program and run DC unlocker. In the Select manufacturer field, select the ZTE datacards option. In the Select model field - Autodetect (recommended).
Step 4
Click the button with the magnifying glass, the program will start searching and detecting the modem. After finding the device in the field for displaying information, at the bottom of the program, among other lines, the status of the modem will be indicated - Locked.
Step 5
To unlock the modem, click the Unlocking button, then Unlock. After that, your device can be used with SIM cards of any mobile operator.
Step 6
After unlocking the modem, the old communication program will remain on it, which is not always convenient. A good option is to use the firmware with the very handy HUAWEI Modem Micro program. It works with operating systems Windows XP, VISTA, 7, suitable for modems: HUAWEI E150, E156, E160, E173, E220, E1550, E1750. To flash, connect the device without a SIM card (this is important!), Wait until all drivers are installed (if the modem has not been connected before). Run the firmware program, accept the standard agreement of use and click the Next button.
Step 7
When the program detects the modem, click the Next button again, in the new window click Start. The flashing of the program stored in the modem's memory will begin. It will look quite menacing - the device will pop, the indicator light will blink. While the program is running, do not close it, turn off the computer power, remove the modem, or run other applications. All this can lead to the failure of the device. After the program finishes, remove the modem, insert the SIM-card of the operator you need into it and start working.
