Choose and purchase one of the special models of multifunctional DVRs that can also be used as a portable compact camera. One of the most famous devices of this type is the Highscreen Black Box Outdoor video recorder. Without a connected screen, this device looks like a cylinder, one end of which has a lens, and the other - a panel with HDMI and miniUSB ports, connectors for connecting two microphones, a slot for a memory card and a switch between different video resolutions.

A feature of this device is the presence of several mounts at once, thanks to which the DVR can be used for shooting in various conditions. These are holders for a car, a motorcycle or bicycle handlebar, a helmet and any flat surfaces.
Step 3
Insert a memory card of sufficient size into the device and start shooting video, holding the cylinder with the camera in your hands or attaching it to your head. At the same time, it will look like a compact device for shooting like GO-PRO, so people around you are unlikely to be able to understand that you are using a car recorder, and not a regular camera.

You can use other models of car recorders for simple video filming. To do this, they must be easy to carry and have removable mounts. In addition, the available memory space for video recording is important: simple recorders usually only support small memory cards, since road photography does not take up much space.

Use devices that support memory cards from 16 Gb and above. Pay attention to the angle of view of the DVR: if it is wide enough, it will be convenient for you to take pictures. Simple and inexpensive models usually shoot only a small space in front of them, which allows them to be used only in a car.

Video recorders can also be used as outdoor surveillance cameras. To do this, purchase a device with an interval recording function. Make sure it allows you to shoot for an extended period of time. You can set it to turn on at regular intervals and work for 1-2 hours, after which it will go back to standby mode.
Step 7
Compact models of DVRs are often used as webcams connected to a computer or laptop via a USB connector. Look out for devices with a gooseneck and a comfortable stand to position the camera comfortably in front of your face. Some models only work with dedicated software such as WebcamDV on your computer.
