Large-screen TVs are noticeably cheaper than similar-sized computer monitors. Some computers are capable of displaying an image on a TV screen initially, while others require refinement for this.
Instructions
Step 1
Check if your TV has an HDMI, DVI, or VGA connector. If there is one that matches one of the interfaces of the computer's video card, buy a connecting cord of the appropriate standard and connect the TV to the computer instead of the monitor. If there is a connector of one standard on the TV, and on the computer another, you can replace the video card in the latter (if it is desktop).
Step 2
If your TV only has a composite video input, inspect the video card for an RCA or S-Video connector. The second is most often found on laptops. On desktop computers, there is usually neither one nor the other - then you will also need to replace the video card.
Step 3
Connect the TV directly to a video card with an output connector of the RCA type, and to a card with an S-Video output through a special adapter. In the absence of such an adapter, feed the brightness signal directly to the TV, and the sync signal through a ceramic capacitor with a capacity of about 0.01 microfarads. Then it will need to be selected more accurately so that, on the one hand, the image does not blur, and on the other hand, the synchronization is not disturbed (visually, this manifests itself in the form of image instability, especially with a sharp change in brightness).
Step 4
In a laptop, the video output will have to be configured. To do this, enter the CMOS configuration program (in laptops, this is usually not the "Del" key, as in desktop machines, but the "F2" key), find the "Video out" menu item and enable the appropriate mode, and also select the color system, supported by your TV (PAL or NTSC). If both are supported, it is better to turn on the second, because then the frame rate will be higher, and the flickering (on a CRT TV) will be less noticeable.
Step 5
It may happen that the image is displayed correctly on the monitor screen, but nothing is visible on the TV. First, check if you have selected the input you need. If you have tried all the inputs, and there is still no picture, you came across a video card that starts producing a video signal not immediately, but only after launching a special program. Download it from the card manufacturer's website. Note that there are almost no such software tools for Linux.
Step 6
Set the resolution to low, and all the text on the TV screen will be large and clear. But all the same, in those cases when it is necessary to work with the text, use for this not a TV, but a monitor.
