Users of personal computers for whom the phrases "home video" or "recording studio in the bedroom" are not empty words sooner or later face the problems of non-professional microphones. The sound level recorded by such devices is often too low, even for amateur sound engineers. However, you can still fix this problem.

Necessary

  • - microphone;
  • - sound card;
  • - an audio editor installed on the computer.

Instructions

Step 1

Click on the control panel icon for the audio device running on your computer. Usually this icon is located in the so-called tray, next to the clock image. A tray is an element of the desktop environment toolbar used for the needs of long-running, but not constantly used programs.

Step 2

In the window that appears, find the volume controls corresponding to the connector of your connected microphone (the connectors may be called Mic, Front Pink in, Rear pink in or otherwise, depending on the audio card model). These controls must be locked at the maximum volume position. Also check that your sound card is selected in the "Recording" tab, and the recording level control is set to full power.

Step 3

Then, in the settings, select the item "Microphone gain" - for this, you just need to check the box next to the corresponding inscription.

Step 4

If the operations done were not enough, and the recording has already been made, you can try using the audio editor tools. Usually, the functions that allow you to work with the amplitude of the sound are located in the tabs "Effects", "Amplitude", "Normalization". It should be noted that only officially licensed and installed audio editors can produce full-fledged work with sound. Portable versions or pirated versions of such programs can be significantly limited in their functionality.
