After the video has been captured, you can view it by connecting the camera to your TV. But in order to edit this material, you will have to copy it to your computer hard drive. This task is not difficult, especially since the camera comes with software that makes it easier to transfer the captured video to a computer.
It is necessary
- - video camera;
- - card reader;
- - USB-mini USB cable or FireWire IEEE1394 cable;
- - a program for capturing video.
Instructions
Step 1
If you have a camera that records video to memory cards, copying the footage will not take much time. Remove the card from the camera and insert it into the memory card slot on your computer, if available.
Step 2
It may turn out that there is no corresponding slot on the system unit of your computer. In this case, use a card reader with a memory card slot of the type used with your camera. Insert the card into the card reader and connect it via the USB interface to the system unit.
Step 3
Open the memory card using Explorer, select the video files, copy them and paste them into a folder on your hard drive.
Step 4
If your camera writes data to a container other than the common avi or vob, and you cannot determine which of the many files contains video, select the largest files and copy them.
Step 5
Many people use camcorders that record footage on the built-in hard drive. Typically, these cameras come with basic video editing software and, most importantly, a driver that allows you to connect the camera to your computer. To copy files, install this driver from the disc that came with the camera. If there is no disk, download the driver from the website of the camera manufacturer.
Step 6
Connect the camera to your computer via the USB connector using a cable. After installing the driver, your camera will be recognized as an external hard drive, from which you can copy files by selecting them, copying them through the context menu and pasting them into one of the folders on your computer's hard drive.
Step 7
If you need to copy video from a camera working with MiniDV cassettes, the video import process will take a little longer. To capture video from such a camera without much hassle, you need a video capture program.
Step 8
Insert the cassette with the captured video into the camera, switch the camera to playback mode and connect to the computer as described in the instructions. Cameras of this type can be connected via USB or FireWare interface. For a FireWare connection, use a FireWire IEEE1394 cable.
Step 9
Open your video capture software. Use the Input or Video Capture option. Select a video source, if the program provides such an opportunity. For MiniDV cameras connected via USB, the source is usually DV Device input. Play video on the camera and make sure the signal is going to your computer. In this case, the video from the camera will be displayed in the program player window. In the program settings, specify the folder where the captured video will be saved.
Step 10
Rewind the cassette to the beginning. You can use the buttons located in the program window. Start video playback and click on the Capture or "Capture Video" button in the program window. When the segment of the video that you wanted to copy to your computer is finished, click on the Stop, Stop Capturing or End Capturing button. The files are now copied to your hard drive.
